Fall in Louisiana means it is time for Citrus. It is best here after the cold moves in and the Citrus starts to sweeten. Some think it is best here after the first freeze.

My Tangerine tree won't wait that long most years. And since the fruit is full of seeds, I usually just juice it, rather than trying to eat it.

Here ya go. The juicing operation is under way.

Would like to try some of that Louisiana juice!

I have Kaffir lime, blood orange and orangequats ripe! I've been eating the orangequats straight off the tree already.

Tangerines - yum! What kind is your tree?

I want to plant a few citrus here (blood orange, tangerines and my meyer lemon), but judging from my old hamlin orange tree (planted in, I think, '89), there's just no point. We usually get a bumper crop but just before the oranges are ready to pick, the fruit rats get them. I'm thinking of cutting it down, just to dissuade all these damn rats (which we were talking about in Chris' thread).

If only I could think of some way to grow citrus & mango without just feeding the rats :rage:

I would put out poison, but am afraid that the parrots and other birdies might get into it. Any ideas... anyone.... ?

St. Pete

Zone - a wacked-out place between 9b & 10

Elevation = 44' - not that it does any good

What kind? Good question. I brought this with me from Gonzlaes in 2000, and moved it with me again from Jeanerette to this property in late 2003. I did find in my logs where I bought it, but I did not record the variety. I do remember it was "sun" something or another. I did make one mistake of planting it next to my Satsuma. They cross polinate each other so I have seeds all over in my normally seedless Satsuma, and some tartness in my Tangerines. I need to germinate some of those seeds someday just to see what grows, haha.
