I think it's also called Golden Spanish Dagger. I have one with a few meters of trunk that has fallen over the garden wall and I would like to know if it can be cut off at ground level and rooted in a pot? Much like a Dracaena cane.

Jon,

these are hardy plants thay grow here. I havn;t seen a marginata veriegated variety though. that would be nice!

you should be able to root it no problem. I have done this with other yuccas and pieces of Yucca aloifolia

do you hae pictures of yours?

So will the trunk grow if I cut it off near the base and stand it in a pot of mix?

Cut an established piece off your yucca plant, and remove any leaves or thatch from about a 12-inch section at the cut end. Store the trunk in a cool dry place for four to seven days to let the cut dry. Dig a hole about 12 inches deep, place the cut end in the ground, and backfill. If your trunk piece is over 18 inches tall, stake it to keep it from being toppled by the wind.

Dear Jon :)

i have a variety very similar to your's and here are the stills of it and i multiply this plant as Simona has said...very very easy to establish through cuttings...it behaves like a draceona Sp.since some draconeas are propogated through cuttings like the plummeria's..here.

Yucca aloifolia 'Marginata' is not common, either in CA or FL, unlike variegated forms of Y. elephantipes and Y. gloriosa. It seems to be rather slowly and sprawls more than the non-variegated forms. It should root easily from large chunks that are cut and dried out for about a week before inserting into soil.

Kris--that's a nice upright growing specimen you have!

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not surprised this plant is uncommon as it's so sharp and draws blood readily.
