I got this nice pot at homedepot a couple years ago on discount because it was cracked. I talked the manager into lett me have it for I think about $8-12 normally like $30-35. anyways I never used it and the crack got worse and slip practically in half.

I dug a hole and sunk it partially in at an angle in my backyard. Filled it halfway with my homemade mixture of soil. (peat, sand, topsoil, perlite, etc)

few extra rocks from around the yard and got one of my Agave celsii's

I like it!

Luke,

It looks, good! I think it will be great as it grows bigger, my celsii should be about that size by the end of summer. Nice to see what it will look like.

No outdoor planting for me though.

Mike, I really like the variety agave. The color is really unique shade of green and succulent leaves.

Luke,

Looks good. I never turn down cracked pots. A nursery here gave me - gave - a large glazed urn that had several cracks in it. I put it in the middle of my grove of Dypsis pembanas with nothing in it. It looks great. I take pots, turn them on their sides and fill with bromeliads or begonias. Just about anything will do.

A good source (for me at least) for big pots is the local flea market. Sometimes you can find them for next to nothing.

I have lots of plants in old broken pots...adds dimension to a garden, IMHO. I usually cut them in half, and get two pots out of one.

I like the bronze verdigris effect in post #14. Takes me back to my days as a visual effects modelmaker. I'm guessing that someone in Steve's place has an art background?

I'll try and get some photos out here.

I love the old sewer pipe bell. Wish I could find some around here along with chimney pots. They make great planters.

One of my summer projects is to make some hypertufa troughs and pots. You can make them any size and shape. This has been on my list for a long time! Along with some leaf imprinted stepping stones.

Steve, what did you use to cut that glazed pot in half? An angle grinder with a diamond blade?

Now those are stone planters!

David McLean spoke at our palm meeting last night and he had some interesting uses for palm logs and stumps. My favorite was a scotch table. He takes a nice size palm log, stans it in the ground and puts a round stepping stone on top. Then when he is working in the garden, he has a place to put his glass of scotch! He is always entertaining.

I'm confused. Where is this place? I've visited plenty ruined castles and abbeys in England, but this looks like a lost Mayan temple from an episode of Scooby Doo. My apologies if I've just trounced a site of national heritage. :mrlooney:

OOPS....wrong kind of pot...

I remember a house near my high school where they used that type of pot for a planter. They took the tank off, put it out in the yard, and planted flowers in the bowl.

I first marked the line I wanted to cut with a magic marker, then used a masonry blade on a skill saw. Be sure to have a friend around who's dumb enough to hold/spin the pot as you cut. Wear a dust mask....

Not being from the US, my interpretation of a famous American architect is Thomas Jefferson or Frank Lloyd Wright. I doubt if I've heard of the architect in question. Does the Internet have anything on it?
