Hello All,

Today we went to Lowes and I saw a most gorgeous succulent, labeled Gasteraloe "Green Ice". It's a hybrid of Gasteria and Aloe. The leaves are mint green with dark green stripes, smooth and thick, from 1" at base to nearly 1/2" at tip, where they have one short spine. I couldn't resist buying it and have planted it in an unglazed 12" bowl. The late afternoon kind of washed out the colors but it is so cool.

Has anyone else seen or have one of these?

John, thanks for the link. I haven't even thought about the pups yet. I just repotted it. Is it a good idea to separate them from mother plant & at what point? It's a really neat plant but I could see it trying to take over the place, just like the Agaves. I got a similar one, smaller, no markings, from Target but that was labeled just "Gasteria". But I'd swear it was another Gasteraloe of some sort. I'm more & more getting into succulents, have a corner of the front yard filled with clay pots of them in all shapes & colors.

Meg,

If that was mine, I've marked on your photo what I would do. I'd take it out of the pot and starting at the base, peel away everything to reveal just the upper portion. You might get at least 2 pups from looking at the picture, but removing the lower section will leave you with a nice "V" shape to the base of the plant, which will then grow rapidly, producing an attractive swollen underside. It will also make removing subsequent pups easier.

Here's some shots of me doing something similar to an Agave. It doesn't matter if the leaves tear when you remove them. Just peel off back to the base.
