Opihikao Garden Tour on Sunday April 6.  This is a HIPS (Hawaii Island Palm Society) meeting being held at Davis Dalbok's beautiful garden located in the SE corner of the Big Island of Hawaii.

To get to the garden:  From Kea`au, take Hwy 130 past Pahoa.  From the beginning of the Pahoa Bypass it is 5.7 miles to the Opihikao turn off to the left.  This is past Leilani Blvd. and past the Scenic Overlook by the steam vents, or 0.25 miles after mile post 15 on Hwy 130.  Go left down the (steep) hill on Opihikao Rd. 2.5 miles to the colorful house number sign at 13-698 Opihikao Rd. on the left.  It is by the last telephone pole where the line suddenly swings overhead from a pole on the right to the last pole which is on the left.

Davis has invited us to tour his garden and enjoy the afternoon on his spacious deck with its ocean view.  Try not to miss this one.

See   www.livinggreen.com   and click on portfolio to see photos of this attractive Opihikao garden.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
