I have one in the ground here in zone 5. I protect it in the Winter with a wooden box with a plexyglass top for the Sun to heat, then I put enough grass and leaf clippings to cover the caudex. It is going well so far.

WHat zone are you in? Those are BIG Revoltas to be where it snows. Congrats and good job.

I'm sure that snow is a rare event in Amman!  Have you tried any other cycads Simona?  Dioon edule would thrive with your summer heat, and is easy to grow from seed.

Hi Kansas,

Waw! Zone 5 ! You really mean: Zone 5: -29 to -23 C (-20 to -10 F) ?

Whish your cycas will get well through this winter!

Amman is in Zone 9: -7 to -1 C (20 to 30 F).

Hello Roaringwater,

No, snow is not a rare event here, it usually snows 2-3 times each winter. This winter was harder than last years', it already snowed four times...

I have a Dioon Spinulosum, or so I believe its one, and I got one Cycas Circinalis seed one month ago from the Canary Islands...

Unfortunately, there are no seed dealers here in Jordan, neither can I shop on websites.

I had no idea that snow was a regular occurence in Amman.  I'm not sure that Dioon spinulosum would stand -7c, but Dioon edule would.  I would be interested to see more photos of exotic plants in Jordan.  Simona, do you have any photos of date palms in the snow?

Great pics.  Cycas panzhihuaensis should also be good for your climate.  I have a couple that I intend to try outside when they are a little larger.  I see -6°C/21°F most winters, but not usually any snow.  I also have Cycas taitungensis and Macrozamia moorei, which I'm informed should be feasible in a well protected microclimate.

Yeah, you are right Roringwater...my Spinulosum had frost damages at -4 Celsius.

As I already told you, I have no idea where to get some Edule seeds...

Date Palm fotos in snow....well....i don't think so...must fetch... i really hope to shoot some next year ('cause winter is not yet over...)

Hello Neofolis,

you are right, I've heard of Panzhihuaensis' frost tolerance, so it's already on my wish list...

Simona, you can usually find seeds of Dioon edule going cheap on ebay- have you looked there?

Thanks, but I can't order there....or anywhere else first, because I have no bank account and second, because I would have to pay very high shipping taxes for Jordan, or they would not send here at all . Not because postal taxes are high....dealers just don't send here . I opened the site and offers are great, 5$ for 10 seeds ....but, that's it!

That happened three month ago when someone helped me order a book from Amazon...and had to pay twice its  price because of the high shipping taxes they are practicing...just didn't feel well when instead of 27 Euro had to pay 60....
