David_Sweden 186 Report post Posted September 2, 2018 I don't know if anyone living in a hotter country is interested in getting this Licuala Ramsayi and Licuala Peltata var. Sumawongii for free except you'd have to pay for shipping. As you can see here, the have not been doing well lately, and the only thing I think might help is planting them in the ground. Otherwise I'll have to throw them out..
maxum2610 156 Report post Posted September 6, 2018 Looks like typical root rot going on here (from what I can see in the pics). I had the same problem with my Peltata. From what I could tell, the mix seramis, pinebark, Leca I used was wrong (My bad). Too much Seramis in my mix. While Seramis is a wonderful product, too much of it will inevitably lead to root rot due to its high water absorption potential: a demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgH_irMebgw So what I did was report in 50% redwood pine bark, 25% perlite, and 25% rough (4-5mm) pumice, and the bottom 1/3 of the pot pure Leca. I also sprinkled on top of the soil: MgO manganese oxide, bonemeal to stimulate root growth, and guano in the form of slow release pellets. After about 6 months, It's finally starting to push up a new leaf. The problem with L. Peltata is that they need a lot of water, but have a tendency to rot quite easily. From what I can see, your Peltata is sitting in a mix of Cococoir and perlite. This I think holds too much water around the root ball. I would repot the Peltata (and the Ramsayi), eventually in a mix with Seramis, but limit the Seramis to 15-20% max. If you plan to throw them out anyway, let me know what the shipping cost is (shipping bareroot) and I'll see if I can stick them in my greenhouse.
