Great Florida freeze of 2010. Multiple hours below freezing, ultimate low around 20. In an exposed location a seedling just going pinnate was severely burned, not sure if it will survive, only time will tell.

Update April 2010: The palm threw a new leaf! Albeit disfigured but it survived and is growing again! It lost every exposed leaf it had. I think this palm is pretty much long term hardy in 9a in the southeast as it only got damage this past winter when it was weeks long of cold but is now recovering. I dont think it would survive long term in 8b without protection. This seems to be the least cold hardy Butia.

Two established B. purpurescens went through 13F-15F this winter (January, 2014) and then a horrific ice storm in February. Both were defoliated, but are putting out new foliage very quickly. I'm surprised that they did so well.
