Thanks! Yep, just turned 40! Sure doesn't feel like it. Now its 9 years and 36? days until 50. 40 isn't bad. It was 30 when everything started to hurt more. Guess those rough 20s partying days caught up.

Happy 40th birthday!  Believe me it isn't bad.  Just the beginning.  I turn 59 soon and am looking at 60 in a little over a year.  But it hasn't really slowed me down.  I am afraid if I stop I won't be able to start again!

Oh yeah, 40 doesn't bother me at all. I still have my hair and it hasn't turned gray and I can still dye it blue if I want like the old surf-new wave-punk days. Right before I turned 30 it bothered me but after I got to 30, who cares and 40 is no bother. I remember when my dad turned 40, he had his big midlife crisis(sports car, etc). Me, I can't have a midlife crisis as I haven't really grown up. My girfriend says I am headed the other way, instead of a shiny new sports car I recently bought a 28 year old 4 door diesel Mercedes Benz.

Happy Birthday!

You're like me -- you can't have a midlife crisis if you're still a kid at heart!

Oh, my, a Mercedes diesel?  Hmm.  It's nice not to have to hurry!  :)

You're worse than me.  I just got rid of my 31 year old No-Va and the 30-year-old Lincoln Pimpmobile.

Still have the pickup though . . . .

The No-Va failed the smog check as a gross polluter, so Uncle Ahnold offered to buy it for $1,000 which I accepted.

I'm car shopping on recycler . . . .

I bought a silver 1980 MB 300D. I got it off Ebay and it is in great shape; paint is excellent, chrome is like new, body has only a tiny spot of rust behind the front wheels, the interior is mint condition except for 1 crack on the dash. It only has 158k miles and leaks no fluid, everything works. Even has the original Becker radio. It drives smooth and good. The diesel engines MB built from 1975-1985 are supposedly one of the best ever built. They are almost indestructible. Many of these run, 300, 400, 500k before major problems. These are a favorite car for conversion to run on veg oil or waste cooking oil. Lots were built but the diesel engine lowered the resale value. Many are still on the road and it is an affordable, German luxury sedan. This past year the value has shot up because of the demand for veg oil conversion. Its amazing, in 1980 when new this car cost around $30k. In the past year I have owned it, other than regular maintance, I have only changed out the glow plugs. The car was bought from someone down in Naples. They were a NY resident and came down for the winter (rust spots=road salt). I've had several offers in parking lots of people wanting to buy it. Same thing happens with my other car, my bright green 1995  Geo Tracker "beachmobile" (another totally reliable car). Now I'm looking for a 1980/1981 Rover 3500 (SD1) in decent shape but the dream is for a Delorean in a few years.

So, Eric, what did you do to celebrate your birthday?

No palms, I rent a place so don't put much in. There is an old Sabal palmetto and I have planted a few; coconut, Archontophoenix cunninhamiana, Dypsis decaryi, Hyophorbe indica, and Phoenix louriei.

My girlfriend and I go to a nightclub every Sat. night with our group of friends. we went to a friends house for a "pre" party and then went out to the club. I got free drinks and shots all night and the DJ played pretty much whatever I wanted to hear. Sunday we went out to dinner with my mom, it was good times both nights.
