Y'all this is PalmTalk, and yet I'm finding myself obsessed with fast growing tropicals. In the last few months I've obtained either through gifts, coupons, or purchases 10 banana plants and want more. I'm germinating probably 100 papaya and I'm setting up a wintertime grow lab for them. I'm finding it incredibly difficult not to buy these $10 loquat sprouts off eBay.

Is it time for an intervention? Am I just broadening my horizons and learning more? Because lordt am I learning.... Am I just looking for fast growth while I wait for palms to catch up? Am I just looking for cheaper alternatives to giant shade plants?

I joked with a friend that with the nursery license application maybe I'm actually becoming a farmer, and I do have a farmers tan except it's on my feet from my flip flops (the kids these days call them "slides").

I love loquats.  A family member bought a tree and after eating one fruit I ate like 10 more. In growing one from seed right now, a humble 4 inch tall seedlings. I would say if you want them for the fruit the best time to start is now. Some people go for fancy cars and stuff but here we enjoy the green gifts of life, nothing wrong with trying a new plant as long as you’re not impulsively buying everything you see.

I did that in 2020 😂

An intervention may not be possible.  You're asking for advice from a bunch of addicts.

My plant obsession was going in the direction of the slower growing tropical fruits -- the Garcinia's.  Now I am going to have to get some papaya seeds,  and grow papayas too!

If you want to build a nice collection, be discriminating. Don't buy just anything and everything. Save the plant dollars up for ***special*** things.

I just bought 2 plumeria I have wanted for a long time....Strawberry Falls, and Filifolia. Both are in the mail right now and will be here next week. I'd rather spend more on a single 'special' plant than spend $10 on pretty common plants

I dunno what this says about me, but I'm walking a fine line between stuff I want and stuff I think I can sell now.

Some of them, yeah. Keep a few, sell the rest.
