Wal,

Here is an article I just read for Victoria and Tassy

We're predicting a light, white Christmas

December 21, 2007 04:06pm

PARTS of northern Tasmania and Victoria's alps could be in for a white Christmas with light snow expected to fall tonight and tomorrow as storms sweep across southern Australia.

Forecast group Weatherzone said the weather was deteriorating rapidly across Tasmania with heavy rain and storms moving in this afternoon.

Weatherzone's Matt Pearce said light snow could arrive in northern Tasmania tomorrow afternoon through to Sunday morning depending on the cold front.

But snow was more likely to fall on the higher ranges of the Victorian alps tomorrow, he said.

"The snowfall will depend on whether it is cold enough and has enough moisture around," Mr Pearce said.

"We're expecting a lot of heavy rain overnight and early tomorrow morning ahead of the front.

"There could be a period in the middle of the day tomorrow when it is still cold enough and still enough moisture around to cause light snow in the Victorian Alps."

He said the rain would be welcomed by rural communities with plenty of rainfall expected over the Murray-Darling catchment area.

Bevis Dutton, State Emergency Service (SES) regional manager in northwestern Tasmania, said flash flooding warnings had been issued for the area.

"We'll be ready to react if there are any problems," Mr Dutton said.

"We had a run of significant flooding in August which flushed out the rivers so there's not a lot of junk around to block the system."

Now living the life in Childers, Queensland.

Here in Kona the temperatures for the next 5 days (which includes Christmas day) will vary only one degree either way - daytime highs are predicted to be 27.7 C to 28.3 C   (82 F to 83 F)  and lows of

20.5 C to 21.1 C   (69 F to 70 F).

Maybe a bit boring to some but the plants and people here aren't complaining!  Well, maybe Santa feels it's a little warm and there's rumor that he actually disrobes and goes swimming and even surfing during his stop off here in Hawaii.

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

To all,

Well, I know for sure 3 things are going to happen here on Christmas Day.

First.....it's going to be warm, in the 80's.

Second.....it will NOT snow here at my house.

Third......Santa Claus IS coming to drop off a few presents ( I was told). :D

Merry Christmas !

Well, here's the forecast for a location that's probably closer to Santa's stomping grounds:

"Christmas Day

Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow. Highs around 5 below. Light winds. "

That's a high of 5 below Fahrenheit (or -20C). And the place: Fairbanks, Alaska. Consider yourself fortunate that you're not trying to grow palms there!

It will been here between the 7-9C/44,6-48,2F for the day and between the 3-5C/37,4-41F for the nights. Sometime a shower, sometime some sun... so it will be a green Christmas.

Having changed quite a few times, the forecast is now back to almost the same as quoted above, except a minimum now of 3°C/37°F with Light Rain.  I'm not totally convinced though, as there are only two hours to go here and it is currently 11°C/52°F, which is 2°C above the maximum temperature forecast for today.

They changed the forecast to 39C yesterday. Right now at 10.15am WDT it's 32.7C, so I think it will be a correct forecast. It may get to 40C. If it does, tomorrow could be even hotter than the 40C predicted.

A bit warmer than expected; my high was 71F/21.6 above the 65F/18C predicted.  But the low was right on; I got 45.5F/7.5, the prediction was 45F/7C.  A beautiful Christmas Day!

The temperature at 00:00 was 11°C/52°F and it continued to drop by about 1°C every three hours down to 1°C/34°F at 6:00 on 26th, so I suppose it depends on when they determine the start and finish of the day.  Going strictly by the clock 11°C/52°F was the highest recorded temperature on 25th, but they would probably be referring to the daytime maximum, as sometime between 6:00 and 18:00, in which case the highest was 9°C/48°F.  It's a similar story with the minimum temperature.  In terms of conditions, it rained heavily overnight on 24th and remained overcast all day, so the initial forecast of foggy was not accurate.
