A couple of lovely caudescens ready for planting out. I have some lovely specimens in the garden already and shade growing seems to be what they like not deep shade but bright shade at least in my climate. I have two that are in sunny positions that just don’t perform as good the shade grown cousins. They do like any amount of water you give them. And they are quite cool tolerant along with being quite tough. Another lovely palm well worth growing in any garden. And iam sure there is a nice spot somewhere in the garden!

A real winner. And if you can get hold of one I recommend you do so. You will be surprised how cool tolerant they are, I would say at least 2 degrees Celsius possibly down to 0 no frost but they are tough. Well worth a try. My ones have seen a few cool winters over the years. My area has been hit by two black frosts in 25 years. Not my property but I will say dam cold temperatures. Slow growing is there only problem.

They survive down here. They actually don’t really even get damaged even without canopy down to -1.5C/29F, it’s just that they barely grow. My older one is over 15 years old and while it doesn’t look terrible, it doesn’t really gain size. This photo is from last September, it actually looks a bit better now after a good growing season. image.thumb.jpeg.bc60d8956be1d95c306dca9c311aea07.jpeg

Yep you’re right it does get too much sun. I’m just waiting on my Jubaea to grow and shade it out. Will only be another 20 years or so 🤣
