good new growth on my windmill palm

i’m on 4.5 new fronds for the year. this is its second year in the ground too. however, my other one has stalled its growth. the trunk seems to be getting bigger but the new spear completely stopped opening. i might dig it up and move it next to the one in the pics since it seems like a very good spot

I would let the second one settle in on its own time.

If you move it, you will most likely stunt its growth longer!

Another vote for leaving it alone.

Patience. Sleep-Creep-Leap; the 3-year plan

I have two windmill palms that are similar. I have a big one that has about 3’ or trunk and the trunk diameter is probably 6” already. I bought it in a big 40 gallon pot or something like that. It has a very small crown and has only grown two fronds total since I planted it last year. It’s completely stalled now even with regular deep watering and two fertilizer treatments already this year. On the other hand I have a small (3 gallon) roughly nanital I planted in March and it is growing at filiferesk speed so far. It has pushed 4 fronds since March and shows no signs of slowing down. It has a better microclimate for west Texas I think though. It’s under a red oak so it gets dappled light all day and 2-3 hours of direct west sun at the end of the day.

i just realized something. it’s focusing on trunk growth. i just took a closer look at it and i realized it’s put on like 4-5 inches of trunk. this palm and the other one have always been just very different. the one that is putting on trunk is just not as much bigger but the one on the side is putting out more fronds but the other one isn’t it and the fronds are different and the overall look is different

sorry a bad migraine started to hit mid response so i started saying a whole lot of nothing. what i was trying to say was they’ve always just been opposites of each other. the one putting out a lot of fronds now wasn’t doing that before. before it was the other one that put out fronds faster and they keep switching places. also the one focusing on trunk growth instead had no transplant shock at all which was crazy and the one doing better now looked ratty the whole summer and up until around may. but since the one doing well is only on its second year and even before you said that, i remembered this is creep year. i can’t imagine what it’s gonna be like next year for leap year! my estimate is i’ll get 7-9 new fronds which is remarkable for such a small palm on its second year

yeah mine is small. it had i think a 9 inch trunk but is shooting out new fronds like there’s no tomorrow. i’m on the 5th frond and i see the 6th spear coming up which i think is remarkable for its second year

I can't speak to regions outside of my own. Perhaps someone closer to your location can provide some information.
