so the constant warming of the waters is also taking place in your area. The sea temperature is still pleasant

Oh, 27 degrees Celsius in the pond.

have you discovered various animal species in and around the pond, such as frogs, newts etc. or have you settled them?

I’d say pretty average for this time of year. It usually ranges from high 80s to possibly 90 in late summer down to high 50s to 60F at the peak of winter.

I have added rainbow shiners a fish from the southern United states which do fine since the water never freezes here and they can tolerate colder periods of water during the winter. I occasionally see frogs and newts. Lots of dragonflies and pondskaters.

16 to 17C in the middle of winter, when they should be about 14 to 15C by now.

Sea temperature here is currently 25.2C. I'm about 30 km from the coast and have a 3 metre diameter aboveground pond with water 21C.

approximately how big is your pond and what is the maximum temperature of the pond water?
these are very beautiful fish, a friend of mine had them in a large aquarium, but he would have preferred to have them in a pond, but he always had frost in winter, so it didn't work out.

these are still mild water temperatures for winter, by our standards here. we have about a minimum of 5 degrees celsius / 41 degrees fahrenheit in lake constance in the coldest month.

that is pleasantly warm for bathing.
the pond also has a pleasant temperature.
is a nice size for a pond, i think.

did you also put some animals in it and of course others that live in this area ?

does it also give off heat if it gets really cool in your area or is it very rarely below 15 degrees celsius / 59 degrees fahrenheit?

The highest water surface temperature I have seen in it has been 30c during July 2022 one day after over 40c but at the bottom it's always cooler.  I would guess it's between 10,000-15,000 litres.

a good size, he had a similar size back then simply in aquarium form and had good experiences with the animals and the size of the aquarium.
dragonflies are also fascinating, in our nearby nature reserves and forests with ponds you can see some right now.

The sea temp here is now up to 71.2f/21.7c which is extremely warm for this time of the year. Going into the weekend we have cooler weather, so it should remain the same temp, however later next week it will warm up again.

Definitely not great for the native wildlife though that is a nice temperature for swimming. In recent years the warmer sea temps have been brining more wildlife to the UK seas,  especially in the south, brining hammerhead sharks, sand tiger sharks and leather back turtles ect.

yes.

the other side is that it was nice to take a half-hour swim today. but it really stormed afterwards and rained again later. good thing there are storm warnings everywhere and in this bathing facility (now free for everyone) too.
the air was around 27 degrees celsius while swimming, so the station there was pleasant but very humid. according to security, some people have already drowned around the lake this year, more than in other years until July 3rd.
it's amazing when you look at your latitude that there are even hammerhead sharks and sand tiger sharks,  and leather back turtles. although i still think you have a very mild, balanced climate all year round when i see your statistics. i'd like that too. you have and had a very good, balanced climate in the past and not damp and rather cool with lots of rain as many people thought and think. although rain is exactly good. when i see photos of all the exotic species that thrive, i can only congratulate and rejoice, fantastic.

Not my ideal for bathing, but some people prefer cooler water. Even to the extent they'll throw blocks of ice in before swimming.

That pond is the largest of several however what I call a "dam" is much larger but it dries out in the dry season. When full it's about 28 metres by 30 metres. At the moment it's about 10m by 15m, by August probably zero, December/January full and overflowing.

The dam connects to a swamp and river so wildlife moves itself in. The pond has native fish, but things like Dragonflies and other creatures also move in themselves.

Minimum temperatures can get below 15C but fairly rarely. I don't think the water gives of any significant heat to the local area. I always measure the water temperature just before sunrise.

i also find it quite pleasant when the air is warm enough, we were swimming up to 16 degrees celsius, just not for 1 hour but only for 20 minutes, but the air was then over 20 degrees celsius and usually only slightly windy.

have you been swimming or do you just like it on the beach?

many of my friends don't even like swimming that much, regardless of the body of water, they just enjoy it otherwise, which is of course also nice.

Darold, fresh is of course relative, my colleague who has been doing triathlon for a long time, just for fun as he says, has just said that he has been swimming from 8 degrees celsius in various waters, partly with and partly without a wetsuit. he is very strongly built more like a boxer and most people think he is joking when he says he does triathlon ...

thank you very much for your interesting explanations. we like these areas, which are either nature reserves and of course also the other areas where the wild animals can be found and where you can sometimes observe them.
your explanation of the dry season and then the rainy season when the water fills up again reminds me every time of a friend who lived near manaus for some time and helped with a reforestation project in the amazon. she told us about the drier season and then the rainy season and that it was never below 19 degrees celsius when she was there for 6 years in total.

it's me again, Darold. i wrote to myself earlier. interesting what the sultry heat does to you. apparently i need more liquid ... 😁
i had already wondered why it is so fresh in your area now, also with regard to the air temperature.
you explained it well in the thread "Looking down lord Howe Island Alley" which i have just looked at. unbelievable what the situation can do. we also have such phenomena.
