Beautiful . Mine has a very large spear right now . It hasn’t had a display since the end of October . We are in Spring right now so it should pick back up now . I started feeding it over a year ago and stepped up the watering and that has really helped the look . In full sun they really need a little extra here . We tend to have arid conditions and very warm afternoons by August through November . The fronds really get large on these! Mine only stay red for 3-4 days . Harry75181777175__2E18DC9C-43A5-4E7A-B2FF-75B54842B1F2.thumb.jpeg.556a4a139e6397d09763f756197c3c38.jpeg

‘The last frond , sorry already green . About a week after opening . The trunk is a little over 5’ where it meets the crown shaft. I’ve been giving it an organic fertilizer , powdery stuff , ( magic bat guano dust?) that I mix in the top layer of soil . The stuff only has a light odor but it has helped a few of my palms that were looking a bit lean. It gets a good soaking frequently . This is by far the largest frond it has thrown . The burning of the leaves has been greatly reduced since my change of treatment of this palm. Right now i am watching a huge spear for signs of opening🤞. Harry

Solid palm that one Harry. You are certainly doing the right thing for your Cham feeding and watering does make a huge difference. A palm will take more sun  with increased humidity and your extra watering seems to helping with the burnt leaf tips.

Thank you Richard , yes , I learned a lot on this forum from you and others. This one always grew well but burned in summer sun. It seems to resist that trait now . We don’t get near the rainfall it likes and our arid climate keeps it thirsty , I just wasn’t paying attention enough. After seeing yours and others I got into action and this one responded . Harry

Yes even talking to a plant and acknowledging it I have plants flower in response to attention. We think plants don’t have feelings we are wrong they are a living being, a little attention goes a long way.

They don’t get any better for size and colour than a big Chambeyronia. The blue sky and the green of the garden combined with the red takes it to another level for colours.

Came across some pictures of a Chambeyronia I grew indoors under a skylight at my former place years ago. It did very well in a pot with just a few hours of direct, overhead sunlight each day.

I'm still hopeful that my seeds will eventually do something. Apparently seeds are hard to come by because the plants are $$$

Love it the white background, standout material! And indoors you got the green thumb for growing!

When we visited New Caledonia in 2023 before all the trouble started over there we went walking in the forests like Mt Koghi and the great tree fern park and our eyes were just pealed looking for red leaves. They were everywhere and we had to photograph every one. It made for a slow walk, but I just loved looking at small seedlings that popped up with red new leaves. It’s one of the most beautiful places on earth the New Caledonian rainforest.

Well what you would be looking at with customs is thrown in the bin without phytosanitry certificate. Postage is quite cheap really for ten seeds. But I won’t tell customs they are coming so you might get lucky!

The south pacific islands are so easy for me to get too. Fiji Vanuatu new cal just a few hours drive to the airport and a short 4 hour flight. Bingo paradise found! Done Fiji twice and the same for Vanuatu, looks like new cal next! What a shame! Got good mates in Vanuatu, pentacost island palms anyone!

Yeah I don't trust them very much right now. I know it's not the same, but I do vape and many states are banning these disposable vapes- including my state - and my favorite brand has been hard to find lately. According to posts on Reddit, there's multiple shipping containers of these being just held for months.

I know an envelope full of seeds isn't the same as a shipping container full of vapes from China, but I'm skeptical. The seeds I got before came from Doomsdave, the Santa Claus of palm seeds, and maybe he has a couple more now that I know how to crack and clean them lol

I just put my ones in my favourite medium and leave them alone, sometimes less is best and the more you fiddle around with them the worse you make it! Yes the good old G man has taken the gun out of palm collecting. Be a good thing to give up the vapes, there cracking down on them in Australia as well.

Lol that's exactly what @DoomsDavetold me to do and I didn't listen. "Just put them in a community pot and keep it moist and don't worry about them."

Anyway, with the vapes here they're not banning the ones manufactured by the big tobacco companies. Those are a-ok. Basically in Mississippi they need a permit and they won't issue a permit for any company or device that didn't exist before 2017 and the good ones didn't.

They claim it's to keep kids from vaping stuff like raspberry cheesecake flavor but it's really just a payoff to their donors. For the record I like the cool mint flavor and can't stand the sweet stuff. I quit smoking pot, I haven't drank in over a year now, I need SOME kind of vice in my life.

Keeping your hands busy is one trick quitting. The usual way you give up one vice and start another.

Welp I have this medical condition that's probably due to long COVID where if I move around and do anything at all I get really dizzy and almost collapse, so they put me on antidepressants because supposedly that helps - and now I have this medical condition where if I move around and do.anything at all I get really dizzy and almost collapse and now I also sweat a lot and my heart rate spikes, so it's neat. And I have neuropathy in my feet and hands from the diabeetus and I really think I'm starting to show signs of rheumatoid arthritis (it runs in the family) so I do as much as I can, really. Having said that I'd probably make a really lousy gardening apprentice, but when they deport me for my Twitter account can I still come hang out in your greenhouse?.

Yes I had Covid and got from hospital, during y y operation ! Iam not a doctor but I would recommend Cannabis CBD oil for some of your conditions, you will be surprised the good benefits of CBD oil. While I don’t do drugs or drink, I do not have  a problem with anyone who wish’s  to do so, it’s there body and they have freedom of choice in life. And as for twitter I get really bad internet connection so you won’t have internet reception to run up a bill! And if they come looking for you we will just hide you in the nursery at the back of the Joey palms!

I know this is a palm forum, but I'm about to talk about something else, when I was in the hospital for the last time just a year ago July 2024, I was shocked, when the doctor came and told me that I had covid, in the years before I had done 3 vaccines, at home I had not had contact with anyone, the doctor said that I probably had it in the hospital bathroom, I could not eat and had to drink 5 liters of water a day, imagine that every 5 minutes I went to the bathroom, but I was lucky covid did not leave any damage in me, I do a lot of work in the garden and I feel good, and I do not think about the negative things, thank god, so I am not the only one who has had health problems I am in good company

Oof. I took the optional layoff and unemployment when things got bad. The first time, I either got it from a grocery delivery person or it was airborne while I was walking my dog. You know they told us going outside w/o a mask was fine. The other 2+ times I was managing a hotel and our biggest client was TDCJ, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, the prisons. If we had someone tell us they were positive we had to quarantine the room for 48 hours and there were all kinds of special protocols to clean the room. I was sold out one night and this couple was due to check out, and they wanted to extend. The wife told me her husband tested positive. She refused to wear a mask, she didn't want to stay in the room because he was sick. So she walked up and down the hallways and the lobby coughing everywhere, and they got really mad when I couldn't extend them due to being sold out. Who knows. The first time I had it I was so sick I thought I was going to die. The second time was basically a head cold. The third time I was so sick I actually wanted to die so it'd be over.

My doctor told me one of the variants caused symptoms similar to mine, and he's had patients who had this variant die, a man my age can't walk or feed himself anymore, and people are showing up with symptoms like mine years later. It's crazy, but I'm glad those of us that are still here are still here. And I'm glad @happypalms is still here for all I've learned from him and all the times he gives me crap for all the plants I've killed 😂

The COVID debate is only really starting to come out now with the affects it has had on people and their lives. In Australia returning passengers from overseas had too do a two week stay in an all exspens paid lock down in the room crazy. I couldn’t go to Sydney for my operation due to the world ending, and I needed a specialist surgeon, the surgeon I had stuffed up my operation now I gave permanent pain. But look on the bright side I have also killed many palms to many in fact and still do so, so it’s just not you who is a palm killer!we all do some more than I theres that’s all.

Make the most of life they say, short time living long time dead they tell me. In a country such as Italy the Catholic Church is just one religion, in a country such as India there are many religions, at the end of the day there is only one god, he just chooses many different forms in many cultures. I too will confess iam a plant hoarder to the maximum it’s better than drinking alcohol that’s for sure!
