Hi, our King palm has stopping growing over the past 6-8 months. We thought it might have been sunburn but now that it's winter and it's getting less light, are realizing that it must be something else.

Symptoms include:

  • No new fronds. The growth at the middle of the tree has stopped and wilting.

  • Many of the older fronds are not looking good. Some shriveling up at their tips. up. Others are drying up in patches.

  • Trunk looks fine.

  • Tree is roughly 25 feet. It has been in the same place and the same watering schedule since we moved in 4 years ago. It was thriving up until recently.

-We are located in San Diego (Zone 10) and haven't seen any unusual temperature variations outside of expected seasonal changes and a heat wave over the summer.

  • No changes in lighting. The tree is on the north side of house and on a hill. Lots of sun in the summer. Less in the winter. Again this hasn't been a problem in past years.

  • A landscaper says it might be fusarium wilt. This seems odd since the classic symptoms are not there (no half-dry fronds). Also it seems like that would primarily affect other kinds of palms (Queen, Palm).

Any advice would help!F652CF47-5188-4F7D-80F1-4A8457A0CF8B.heic

The site does not accept photos in your format. You need to upload photos in the .jpeg format. I’m not aware that the Archonotophoenix genus is susceptible to fusarium wilt - can someone confirm? If they are the disease is invariably fatal. But we need detailed photos in jpeg format.

This is imo no fusarium. Rather a shock due to hot weather and dryness. You really need a combination of cool weather and heavy rain for speedy recovery (unlikely in Florida).
