It may be too early to ask, but does anyone know the cold-hardiness of Sabal lougheediana? I know people have only been growing these for a few years, so it may not be known yet. Point is, I have some seedlings (when they get a bit larger), I’d be interested in donating to botanical gardens or other public gardens that want to add to their collections.
BTW, these were sourced by a friend here in Satellite Beach, who has a house on Bonaire. He scoured island on scooter, and found a private property (Apt Complex) and was given permission to collect.

I can't speak for Sabal lougheediana, but I donated the closely related Sabal antillensis to a botanical garden in St. Pete (I got it from Montgomery Botanical Garden in a trade). It has been very wind and salt-spray resistant, and looks pretty good after several feet of storm surge in Hurrican Helene, but hasn't seen any real cold. Both species are related to S. causiarum, so I feel like they should have a decent bit of cold tolerance, but I don't think I would push it too much with the first generation.

Thanks for info Keith. I was thinking about the newest garden in our area, which is St John’s Botanical Garden, in Hastings, FL. It’s close to St Augustine, so quite a bit colder than here.

Dear members,

How about your Sabal lougheediana ?

Any cold hardiness observation after this winter ?

I bought 5 small Bonaire's palms. I would like to have your advise about the cultivation.

Thank you.

Jean-Michel
