Never give up on germinating

Planted these Chamaedora microspadix seeds in the spring from a summer 2023 batch I bought online. Was told countless times they would probably never germinate since this specific genus of palms do not produce seeds that have a long shelf life. But regardless, I planted them and kinda forgot about them. And now randomly they have decided to germinate in September

Dont give up guys. ✌️

So true.  Many times I've started seeds in a pot and after a year or so planted something else in the same pot just to have palms popping up shortly after!

The exact same thing happened to me with Chamaedorea pochutlensis, I collected seed in Jalisco and expected them to germinate in 1 or 2 months and tried a lot of methods; from the baggy method to putting the seeds in boiling water but they ended germinating exactly 1 year after in July of this year. I think it's normal for Chamaedoreas to take that amount of time to sprout after all.

Various types of seeds can take longer to germinate but I find that the Chamaedorea usually are among the fast ones. When I come across seeds that have fallen from my palms I will push them into the soil around my garden ( most are from Chamaedorea ) . I don’t really keep track of them unless it is from , for instance , my Howea that only produces nice seed every couple of years. As I am working around my garden , I see them popping up here and there , filling in and growing under other , taller palms. I can dig them up and move them if needed. Harry

I do the same put new seeds in. Thinking nothing will germinate. Then the problem begins trying to find out what variety it is. Sometimes you can tell by the seed. Other times it’s a guessing game.

I had a similar experience with some Chamaedorea costaricana seeds that were collected locally.  They were in the garage on a heat mat forever, with 0% germination.  I was reorganizing a garden and needed some fill, so I just dumped the bag into the area to help fill it in.  A month later, there were sprouts everywhere.

Lol just got to get used to random palms popping up everywhere. I grow so many Sabals from seeds there’s probably 3 - 6 random S. palmetto seedlings in any given potted plant I own right now! Lol

I just had a Trachycarpus Princeps seedling sprout in September, after starting them at the beginning of March this year! They took some time for sure. Now October, I've only had one sprout so far... About 60 to go!

Some seeds take years to germinate.  It can be a very random process.
