Ulithi the winter equinox just passed the garden has  tucked itself in for the next few months of cool weather conditions so far the garden has faired well with the new plantings but a few more months of cold might change that with some cold damage on some of the new plantings but it’s not as cold Tasmania so that’s one good thing.

That’s the go Harry sit back and relax our daytime temperature was a breezy 22 degrees and this morning at 7 was a nice 14 degrees Celsius last week it was 4 degrees Celsius so not that cold but a nice hot chocolate doesn’t go astray. Richard

After 2 weeks of nasty cold weather, we are having a reprieve this week with overnight minimums still in double digits and the days warm enough for short sleeves.  Not a sign of cold damages as yet. The Mussaendas still have flowers and leaves even the Impatiens are in full bloom.  My Caladiums are starting to droop and the Allamandas are only putting out a few flowers but that is it. (so far) Let's hope it stays that way.

I doubt we could be that lucky with this a mild winter it will get colder that’s for sure the late July frost will have there say in the palm department with old man winter.

Richard, I was just going over your pictures again and noticed a cycad putting out new growth. Here ,where I am , my cycads only put out new growth in Spring to early summer , once a year. In Hawaii I was told they can put out growth 3 times a year. I find it curious that yours would be doing that going into the cold season. Harry

Hi Harry I have noticed that a lot of my cycads flush after really wet weather in my area and in summer in the heat I get good growth in late autumn in my garden after hot summers but a lot of growth is when it cools down a bit and the wet weather plays a role in that a lot with a lot of plants almost delayed growth due to the dry soil but after the rains a different story.
