Tallahassee is usually colder than anywhere in FL, and colder than many locations in GA, AL, LA, TX, etc.  Don't know why that is, it seems to sit in a cold bowl for some reason.  My coldest so far this year is in the 40s...

The low for tallahassee are recorded at the regonial airport which is a low lying area. ( MAJOR COLD BOWL) I live only 2-3 miles away and recorded a low of 33.7degrees early morning 11/8/07.  other stations around logged warmer(in midtown) and even station near the GA border north of town are warmer than the airport.

the Tallahassee reg. airport is anywhere from 30-50ft above sea level depening on exactly where u stand.

the meter is probably in a pretty low area based on past reading and comparisons. Most of tallahassee is anywhere from 70-200 ft above seat level. my home is right at about 75ft.

Holy crap! Been in the upper 50's in Lox last few nights, a little colder than I'd like, but I guess it's good to harden stuff off.

Off to warmer (mid 60s at night) in Austin, TX for the next week.

Very rare to get that cold this early.  More likely in Dec or Jan.  Most of the big freezes have occurred in Dec and Jan.

I used to have a picture of me sitting on a lawn chair in 2 inches of snow under a sabal  when I first moved to Austin in Jan '85. Snow was quickly gone but I've also slipped and slopped  down the Drag after nasty ice storms. Can be 80 degrees a few days later. Wacky stuff.

The 80s was obviously a cold period.  Ice is a very uncommon event (once every several years).  Measurable snow even more uncommon, could be over a decade between snowfalls..

I am in Atlanta now, and it was downright cold when I arrived.  I was a bit surprised, somehow thinking the cold started a bit later in the year in the south.  It was "crisp"  (right around freezing in the morning).

I figure the entire SE got a bit chilly.

I would also imagine that Austin has warmed up with more of a heat island affect as the city has grown. The Austin of today, though I haven't been in years, has changed dramatically since the 80s.

Austin looks like it's due for some wild swings in temp this week.

From NOAA, high tomorrow (Tues) of 84, only 53 for a high on Thursday!!

Think I'll stay in FL this weekend instead of driving back to Austin. Maybe a Thanksgiving of stuffed Tilapia from my pond with mango sauce...
