I haven't seen any for sale in the area to know for sure if that is a great price or not. Sabal minor grow so slowly that I think $30 is a very reasonable price to pay for the years you didn't have to spend growing them from seed.

I find the price very reasonable for two multi-stemmed sabal minor.

Underneath some 15 gallon annual palms, I found a few somewhat glaucous butias at the orange bigbox store today. I'm sure that I overpaid, but I purchased a 7 gallon palm with 10 to 12 inches of trunk.

Open Fri, Sat and Sun from 10am to 5pm.  Only accepts cash or some sort of a cash app.  It's a very small private nursery.  I used to buy 2 Filiferas from him a couple of years ago.

Nice Sabals Marcus! And I think that is a great price.  Rainbow Gardens has some about that size maybe a bit larger that are $150 each!!! Those are going to do great in your yard.

In Texas I would say yes, they will stretch a bit.

They will grow but are not as cold hardy. I’ve posted two huge trunking pindos from my neighborhood on here. They were one block apart. Similar height but one was more stretched out because it was shaded by huge oaks. It did not recover well from the freezes and got cut down. The other in full sun still looks great.

I was looking at the area where I might plant this and it would receive frost protection from the oak canopy above yet get full southern sun.

Thank you Chris. I think they're a great addition to the yard.  I planted them at a partial shaded area.

Alvin today - local palm tree farm and a random duo of sabals I’ve observed since 2016 they always burn 100% in any hard freeze but recover… anyone know what they could be clearly not palmetto or mexicana as they don’t burn 100% in 17-19° events lol

For anyone thinking of making the trip down to Jimbos, next Saturday (05/31) is their 50th anniversary event. They also have a large selection of bromeliads and cacti/succulents.

Noticed my largest queen palm has a large serration - “tear” on one side . I can’t remember it being like this when I got it a month ago. Can near consistent 15-20 mph daytime winds due to a lake effect breeze cause that ??

Those strength winds are pretty common here.  Last month my smallest queen had an older fronds got snapped from a wind gust and I just left it alone.  Same thing has happened to other palms in the past 2 years.  I'm not sure that's what is going on with yours unless it bent and then pushed back into place.

I did purchase a second palm, I think I will put these in 10 gallon pots this summer and let them acclimate to my climate before I plant them in the spring.

Do they have a fruiting palm?

I've been looking for a domestic seed source for this species and other brahea.

Texas needs more Braheas and more Brahea diversity!
