Heads up I was ripped off for $200 by a person claiming to have the palms I was looking in the wanted section… Luiz Mario is what they went by and email luizmario7789@gmail.com. An individual by the name hyuuuttr645 who just posted a “Hello” recently in this group private messaged me the same day they signed up, claiming this person had palms, and giving me the email above. And has had zero activity since. So not sure if they are the same person or working together or what, but hopefully no one else gets ripped off. We operate on trust around here and is a shame when folks abuse that for us honest ones . Anyways watch out y’all.

So sorry to hear about that.  :(  Perhaps it's best to post about your experience with this person in the "Palm Grower/Buyer Ratings" section as well.  Sounds like this user isn't an IPS member.  They're the only ones that can post items for sale so hopefully everyone will keep that in mind going forward.  I'll copy Dean the moderator to let him know about it. @PALM MOD

Sorry for getting scammed by this person. And thanks for letting us know.

Apparently this “User” (hyuuuttr645 - Mike Scott from Atlanta) has PMed several people on the forum referring them to other individuals (not PT Users) who supposedly have palms they are looking for. I have restricted his usage of PalmTalk. If anyone knows him, or has information about him, please let me/us know here.

Always be suspicious of private contacts trying to sell you palms/plants. Public listings in the Palm Exchange are more transparent. And you can always list palms you are looking to purchase in the Palms/Plants Wanted section. Unfortunately PalmTalk cannot confirm the credibility of anyone posting on PalmTalk. So, check the Seller Ratings in the Palm Exchange and/or ask the Community for information.

“Secret” side deals are inherently more risky.

Thanks to those of you who help make this a fun and friendly forum.

I found out this morning I have been scammed too, not involving palms fortunately, but still money I need to survive.  In the past I have had a few scam attempts, mainly relationship nonsense, something I would never fall for, on this site but they vanish quickly.  I even had a scam parking ticket recently ! Luckily I never drive into that part of town and knew it was fake.

I totally understand, and glad you were able to look into it some. I only wanted to alert people to prevent someone else from interacting with these individuals. It is a risk I took with a side deal, and lost. Such is life, I ordered a few from very trusted sources so I feel better I now have palms on the way! I Appreciate your input.

Sorry to hear this. A little late now but in the future do not purchase any plants from anyone who is not a member of IPS. Potential scammers avoid the Sale Forum and try to post elsewhere on PT to avoid joining IPS. No one should buy anything from a guy like that. Instead, report them and have them removed.

Maybe you can call your credit card or wherever the payment originated from to get your money back?

I was reached out to in a pm as well regarding one of my blue Butia posts and at the last minute they provided me a paypal email with a different name and Russian domain…I thought yeah uh huh sure and the guy kept emailing asking if I made the payment. I mentioned that I’m apprehensive due to the extremely non fitting PayPal email and he said it was his sons and that he has another one…NOPE! I hope everyone stays safe🙏🏽🌴

Such a shame . Scammers are in many facets of our lives now , nothing is sacred. I have a small business and get so many of these type scam attempts that I have become cynical. I want to trust people ,and I still, do but not so much online. I don’t sell palms but I have purchased once from someone I met here on PT and it worked out . The transaction was in person.
