piping plovers
Delighted to see the airport using potted kentia palms in their interior decor. I’ve noticed that so many places resort to the easy to find and less expensive indoor palms (which seem even less adapted to indoor environments). Sophisticated and beautiful Howeas; they elevate the atmosphere in any location. 7
PalmatierMeg
OOOO. Very nice. I’ve loved Howea forsteriana since I was a kid and saw them in old b&w photos. Problem is, Howeas hate FL swelter although I’ve managed to keep one forsteriana and one belmoreana alive in the ground for nigh on 20 years. I don’t keep houseplants. Looks like they do well indoors there. The heat/ac must keep them in a range of temps they can cope with. I wish this palm was sold more widely but I know it grows very slowly so specimens that size must be very expensive. I’ve also found their seeds, at least for me, do not have a germination rate. So, garden centers are crammed with wretched majesty palms that make terrible houseplants and hate pots. 1 Meg Palms of Victory I shall wear Cape Coral (It's Just Paradise) Florida Zone 10A on the Isabelle Canal Elevation: 15 feetI'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade. Out of 120 seeds, 40 plus have germinated for me in a period of 29 months. Nine to 18 months being the sweet spot so far. 29 months later and I’m still getting germination. When I checked the remaining seeds they are still hard and not rotted so I’m continuing with them. The germination pots are under the bed in the spare bedroom room so they are not in the way; just need to check on moisture every few weeks as they are covered with plastic film. I’ve read that they were the favorite palms of Queen Victoria; the old rich and newly rich Victorian and gilded age families displayed them in their houses as status symbols. Often see them in the grand lobbies of the classic old world hotels. Many seen in black and white photographs too. They’re so distinctive in form. Some Howea seedlings growing in my sunroom…
PalmatierMeg
Beautiful seedlings. And such an elegant palm. Your germination rate was much higher than mine. Too bad they are so unsuited to my climate. 1 Meg Palms of Victory I shall wear Cape Coral (It's Just Paradise) Florida Zone 10A on the Isabelle Canal Elevation: 15 feetI'd like to be under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade.
