ellidro
I've resisted hosting for so long just because of the amount of work it takes to get the garden ready when juggling a very busy life with young kids but it was all worth it. It was fantastic to meet some new palm freaks and fun to reconnect with some folks I haven't seen in a long time. Josh and Dave thanks for all the pre-tour work you both do in making these events possible. 2 Encinitas on a hill 1.5 miles from the ocean. Josh and Dave thanks for all the pre-tour work you both do in making these events possible. You two hosting gives me incentive to eventually join the club! It was great to see you and the garden again Nick. I loved the drizzle as it gave it the true rainforest feel. (Maybe not my favorite mode of transport via my motorscooter to get there! lol) Two longtime friends with a collectors eye and appreciation. The difference really only being more space to plant out at Matt's. BS Man about Palms
To that end, as I've noted before, I rarely take pics, but here are a few from Nick's (Some not easily seen as Nick has them stashed away for future property. It was fun to see palms in pots that are from years ago and now impossible to find, waiting for their "moment in the sun". Exciting and cool!!) At Nicks... (Nick, if you want any removed, let me know) 2 1 Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time. BS Man about Palms
Some more at Matt's (less drizzly) Some pretty rare New Cal's... Hey! Next biennial is in New Caledonia!!! Anyone GOING!!?? BS Man about Palms
One of Matt's rarest, (as shown above) shown again, as compared to a small one of mine... but a closer pic shows the unique "3-4 day stubble" they have. Matt's My much smaller one. They keep the stubble! 5 Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time. BS Man about Palms
A few more from Matt's... I hope more people post pics! Since I'm hyping New Caledonia.. I should note the small Chambeyronia houailouensis just to left of walkway here. This pic holds a small Clinosperma bracteale inside the left curve. Compare it to the large trunking Cyphophoenix elegans to its left. The size difference also explains the ease and speed difference between the two. The slender palm to the right of the walkway shows a TRUNKING Kentiopsis (Chambeyronia now) piersoniorum! An EXTREMELY rare sight out of New Caledonia or some places in Hawaii. Okay, I'll note the Tahina spectabilis to the left below... and the Acanthophoenix rouselli to the right of it. 6 Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.
