jmdupuyoo
Dear members, I have 3 Cycas media (with trunks/caudexes 30/40 cm high) currently in pots. I would like to plant them outside. I'd like some information on growing these plants. How often do you water your plants? Does this species tolerate a little shade? Or do they need full sun? How cold hardy are these cycas? Have you lost a plant to frost? If so, at what temperature? In my garden my plants experiment regularly minus 3 to minus 5 Celcius. Thank you very much. Jean-Michel Dupuyoo I wasn't familiar with this species of Cycas, so looked it up. Based on its natural habitat in Coastal areas of Northern Australia it likely would never experience sub freezing temperatures and is pretty tropical. I hope someone else will offer you more practical advice based on real experience Jean-Michel. Some of the sites referenced the habitat being subject to frequent burns so I would expect mature specimens are exposed to a good deal of direct sunlight too. If you do proceed, I would suggest only sacrificing one to the experiment. What are your summer high temperatures in your area in Provence? 1 33.0782 North -117.305 West at 72 feet elevation
jmdupuyoo
Hello Tracy, Thank you for your advice. Yes, summer use to be hot and dry. In July and August, a maximum of 95°F during the day is common. Sincerely. Jean-Michel Dupuyoo
