I came across one of RLR's posts while reading an old thread, and seeing his member status offline, it occurred to me: who is taking care of business? I just wanted to extend a thank you...

I get by with a little help from my fronds

Good question. For the moment I am behind the wheel of the PalmTalk Forum. Robert and I had been working closely setting up the new forum over the past several months and we talked together several times a day as we learned and adjusted all the new features of the  program.

Bob firmly believed in the value of the PalmTalk Forum both for the IPS and for the users who read and post here regularly. He was pleased at how quickly the new changes had been accepted and put into use. He often spoke of additional features he wanted to add as soon as the initial installation had been completed.

No one person can ever 'replace' Robert Lee Riffle as moderator of PalmTalk. He treated this forum as his own child and worked tirelessly for its success. Eventually the IPS Board of Directors will decide on someone to take over the duties as moderator (or moderators) of the PalmTalk Forum however as of now I have no idea who that person might be.

In the mean time at the request of Paul Craft, President of the IPS, I will be responsible for the smooth technical operation of the forum until a more permanent solution is found.  You can help fill the void by offering a helping hand to newcomers with their questions and by continuing to enjoy the forum as you have over the past several months.

Robert left us with no advance warning and he would be both humbled by the outpouring of kindness expressed over his loss and proud of the reserve and self control shown by all in this forum in his sudden absence.

So let me know if I may assist you with problems using the forum, and please enjoy this generous gift from the International Palm Society. As users of this forum, we are the privileged guests of the International Palm Society. The purpose of this forum is to facilitate the dispersal of knowledge and understanding of palms to a global audience.

Michael,

Thanks a lot for that excellent explanation. And for those who are not familiar with exactly how the IPS functions, I just like to add one or two pieces of information. The IPS Board meets once a year (but does occasionally discuss various issues on-line). This year, the IPS Biennial takes place in the Dominican Republic during the first week of October and the Board meeting will be on October 1st. This issue will most definitely be discussed at that Board meeting. It's unlikely that anything would happen before that.

I'd like to Thank You for your efforts also, Michael.

Thanks!

On a somewhat related note, I was noticing while reading a thread with a post a RLR reply, the "pulse" got my attention.

Is there a way to post that Avatar of his above the threads related to him or his tributes?  I kinda like it, its like he just there with you, paitiently taking it all in, in steady pulses....

Just my take,

Hi Bill,

My gut feeling is we should just leave Roberts icon 'pulsing' next to his posts.

It instantly guides us to words that embody the living thoughts Robert Lee Riffle.

To use it differently now would dilute this association.

Thanks for the reply.

Thank you Mr. Burnett.

So far, while we mourn the loss of our dearly beloved captain, the ship is sailing well, and I'm grateful, along with everyone else.

I'll add my thanks as well, Mike.  Truly appreciate that you're keeping it going - this forum is a treasure.  I hope that the IPS will allow it to continue just as it is.
