Im sure within reason you can always over water, but say your soil is still wet from rain a few days ago but now it's a very hot/sunny day.

Is it best to give them a fresh drink during super hot days? Or are they happy as can be with the wet soil?

In pots or the ground?

In the ground, no need to water if the soil - below the surface- is still wet..

In pots, yes, you can over water when it is hot..  Certain types of Fungi / Bacteria ..potentially harmful ones included.. thrive in hot / wet soil.  ( Other types thrive in cold / wet soil also ) You can also cook the roots if the pots are sitting in full sun ..and the soil is constantly wet.

I'd say some palms like fortunei maybe don't like excess water; nor filiferas. Sabal - no problem, a sunny swamp is their favourite spot. Folks here say Majesties like beaucoup d'eau.
