If you have to give palms such as Trachycarpus protection, you could just protect a robusta instead. Probably doable with a structure and c9 lights.

We've been discussing this before but down the road it's up to him to make those decisions and I'd rather encourage than discourage to grow palms in a non suitable zone . I like to know for how long he can keep his palms alive.

That's a idea but has to be protected almost 2 months longer when you actually do it. One month earlier and one month later.
