Hesperaloe question

This may be a beginner question. But does Hesperaloe parviflora sucker like other agaves or yuccas do. I have a large clump with multiple plants, and I would like to separate it and re-plant with the hopes that they will spread. Probably a simple question but I wasn’t able to find a good answer online.

Yep, a clump former ..and yes,  larger clumps can be broken into pieces to plant elsewhere.. Would probably leave 3 or more heads per cutting though.

My clump is only 4 or 5. They are slower here unfortunately, but very hardy. Last year I had 3 flower stalks. It’s actually a decent size now.

Any idea where I can find some yellow ones for a reasonable price?

Tough call but would check any C&S nurseries that might ship from here or S. Cal.  Maybe not the cheapest option, but might check High Country Gardens also.

..Know i've seen them in nurseries, possibly planted out in landscapes in town also, so I'll keep an eye out.

I saw that  high country gardens has the cheapest, but I was a little worried about their reputation. Seems like a lot of people aren’t too pleased with them.

I did see some seeds on EBay but that’s going to take some time to get to a good size. Otherwise I’m looking at $50 for a single.

I do actually have a giant Hesperaloe as well that im growing out.  Will be interesting to see if it does as good as parviflora in my climate. At least the red have come down significantly in price in my neck of the woods. I’ve even seen them in commercial plantings now. It’s a great plant to deal with our increasingly hot and dry summers.

High Country has offered some interesting things, but will admit stuff i picked up from them last year didn't make it.. That said, i already had reservations about the chosen plants. Testing one of them again this year ( Penstemon palmeri ) to see if them dying last year is more attributable to the size of the plants ( small, from HCG ) or the plants just not being hardy enough here ..though they should be. That Penstemon sp especially.  Loves heat and really well draining sandy / gravely soil.

Agree, that Hesperoaloe ( all of them really ) are one of the toughest plants you'll see in barely maintained landscapes for sure.. Like the smaller forms like " Breaklights" more than the standard form myself, though it is a great plant too. Glad to see they're being used in landscapes up there, and seeming to do well.

Giant Hesperoaloe are planted pretty extensively here also, and get very big, esp. when you add in the flower stalk(s).  Look great planted if planted where they fit in the space provided, cramped and stand out like sore thumbs in places where a smaller sp., medium-sized Agave or Yucca would have worked better.  Once established, never seen them have any issues w/ the heat, chill, planted where they get regular or very little regular water, being ignored, etc. They do fall victim to professional plant slayers in some parts of town though.

Will keep my eye out for yellow flowered plants.. I know they're around, just have to remember where, lol. $50 for a single plant?, that is nuts.

Then again, i saw an etsy listing for a Chiltepin plant ..for 38 bucks..  ...Also nuts, haha.
