Palm trees around San Diego, CA.... including the Corypha!

Palms around San Diego, CA! Highlight was definitely the Corypha umbraculifera. The owner was kind enough to investigate the strangers outside admiring his garden, and he states that he bought it as a seedling 25 years ago at Huntington Botanical Gardens and that he treats it against weevils every 4 months, as the weevils have unfortunately claimed a few of his palms already, including a 40 foot Bismarckia.

Great to see an update on this Corypha. I’m assuming this is the one in La Jolla that has shown up here on palmtalk from time to time?  Great pictures Kyle.

would you mind to share the ID of this beauty - I would love to give this one a try if I get a hand on a seed somehow...

However, thank you very much for posting!

Aah, the famous Juabeopsis at the Catamaran...

Better to see if you can find a 5 or 7 gallon locally. They are pretty rare...

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

Thank you for your reply!

Unfortunately I can not import plants to Japan but it seems that rps has seeds from time to time. I will check their page for this species from now on.

On my phone it is difficult to see locations, and that is what I originally replied on. On my desktop, now I see your Okinawa listing. That's a bummer that you have a difficult time getting specimens over there! I'm glad you had such an enjoyable trip and got to see so much great palm life in San Diego! I make a point to stop at that hotel when I am in the area, too. They have a Sabal mauritiformis in the back somewhere that inspired me to search out and plant one in my yard. Hopefully RPS isn't too bad for shipping cost to Japan. It is cost prohibitive to the USA these days! Hopefully some turn up soon...
