Cycas x Daebongensis

My cycas has gone thru 17 or 18 degree weather in a pot.  We wrapped the bottom.  I don't think the entire plant is dead, but the fronds

appear dead.   Fronds are all yellowing and appear fried.

My question, can I cut all these fronts off down the the base or should I leave these fronds alone.  I wouldn't know when to cut.

That advice would also be appreciated.  thank you, Carol

Hi Carol,

You'll probably get a better response if you post a photo and post the thread in the "Tropical Looking Plants Other Than Palms" forum where the cycad experts post.  I don't have any experience with cycads other than the common Cycas revoluta but mine had all of it's leaves turn yellow/brown following 9°F in February 2021.  I cut off all of the dead fronds and it pushed a new flush 3 months later.  Here it is after transplanting to a different house this past spring.

Thanks,  I like your sago,  I have another cycas that I just cut the fronds off everytime it freezes like this.  Since this is a  new

plant, I decided to check.  thanks, I'll go to the other forum.  Carol

It will be fine if you cut the fronds, however some will leave them on for awhile saying brown foliage can be still be beneficial when the plant is stressed. Nothing wrong with leaving them on awhile.  I’ve done both, left on and cut.

Thanks, I grew it from seed 21 years ago.  It stayed in a container for the first 15 years but never saw temps below 25°F.  Hopefully yours isn't too sensitive and it recovers quickly for you.
