Any idea what mystery plant from Orlando I have sprouted?

My family and I enjoyed a great trip to Orlando in October, and I couldn't make it home without a few seeds. This time it wasn't my fault though. While all of my kids spend a fair amount of time gardening with me, my six year old is the only one who has started filling her pockets with seeds when we are out and about. While at Discovery Cove she found a seed buried in the sand that already had a big tap root growing. I brought it home an planted it for her, but I have no idea what it is. I didn't see where she got it, so I don't know what plants were nearby. All I know is that it was dark brown, roundish, and very close to ping-pong ball size. I know it is still very small, but I thought maybe some of you Floridians might recognize what it might be.

Here is what it looks like tonight:

My daughter also collected some love oak acorns on the trip too. These are a lot better suited to my area than most things we've brought back from Florida, since you see live oaks in commercial landscapes in OKC and Tulsa.

My guess is Foxtail. They have large seeds and are common landscape plants.

I love germinating seeds from vacation as well!

What a fun experiment. It'll be cool to watch it grow to see what it turns out to be! Are y'all going to plant the live oaks you're growing?

I am behind on germinating these days because I am determined to not have a hundred or more potted plants around...not again anyway. I also have some CIDPs and filifera seeds from a work trip to Phoenix a year ago. I don't know when I will get around to sprouting them all.

If the mystery plant turns out to be a foxtail, my hat is off to you. You got it in writing first. There were plenty of them at the park.

We will probably plant the live oaks out eventually. I have sprouted them before when I didn't have a good spot for them. So in the past I have given all of my live oaks away to friends and family. Now I live on five (mostly wooded) acres, so there's always room for another tree or two. As long as we are still here in a year or two, I will plant them somewhere on the property.

Testify brother! I've got sabal BHI, trachycarpus princeps and princeps/waggie, needle, and butia going. Too many pots:greenthumb:

@Ben OK I believe thats a Caryota mitis, or clumping fishtail. The last time I was there I noticed prolific seed drop under a few mature clumps next to the sidewalks and cabanas, I actually grabbed a few myself!

The seed was closer to the size of the foxtail seeds, but the outer surface was smooth. Foxtail seeds that I have seen online look much more pitted and grooved on the surface. It was also a good bit larger than the pics of caryota mitis seeds that I googled. On the other hand, caryota and foxtail seedlings are undeniably similar to my mystery seedling here. So I can't rule either of those options out yet.

I have grown adonidia in the past, so I feel pretty confident the mystery seed wasn't one of those. I really love adonidia though. They were very common when I lived in the Philippines, so I have always been fond of them.
