i have no idea why may had two lows of 0 lmao that didnt happen

Looks like it was mild enough.  There are folks growing those on the West Coast, so they may not need as much heat as once thought.

You'll see some of that on WUnderground.com.  The records for some airports are full of holes.  Here's an example from my neck of the woods:

Yep Sabals and needles grow just fine here in the PNW, albeit slow. I made a quick a dirty comparison between Detroit and Nanaimo, which shows how much more heat you have during the May-September "palm growing season". Should have no problem growing in Michigan if you can keep them alive through the winter.

Zone 8b, Csb (Warm-summer Mediterranean climate). 1,940 annual sunshine hours 
Annual lows-> 19/20: -5.0C, 20/21: -5.5C, 21/22: -8.3C, 22/23: -9.4C, 23/24: 1.1C (so far!)

Sabals grow moderately from march-jun and sept-nov and fast in July and August here. They definitely don't need a ton of heat to grow, but more heat definitely helps.

this summer was really hot and humid i kinda hated that lol it got above 90 like 3 times

The average high here was 81.5f for July and August and it got over 104f in July here.  The average temperature was also 71.6f for July and August so it was good palm growing weather.
