New thermometer recommendations

What do you guys suggest for a new thermometer?

Here’s what I’m looking for:

- Accurate

- Has max/min readout

- Ideally, connects to Wunderground or has some other data recording.

- Don’t want to pay extra for an anemometer, I don’t have a decent place to install one and the HOA would probably throw a fit.

Davis are great, but they’re overkill for my purposes. My last thermometer was a simple Acurite one that connected to Wunderground. It only cost something like $60, but it did the job. Unfortunately, they stopped selling this model.

I know you guys are weather experts so I’m curious what you all would recommend.

@RedRabbit

This AcuRite is what the bulk of people in my neighborhood use since they can just stop at Lowe's and pick one up.  Some opt for the LaCrosse brand of the same.  These are good to +/-2F (basically the standard for anything not Davis).

If you're looking to order off of an online retailer and want something a little better, the Ambient Weather 2902c is a good choice.  The Logia 5-in-1 weather stations are starting to pop up and have a decent price point as well.

Like kinzjr said, the ambient weather station is good.  They seem to be the most accurate non Davis weather stations. Here in London they are very similar to the Davis readings on wunderground, other cheaper stations can sometimes be 1-3f off.

I came across ambientweather.net and it might be better than wunderground. 😁

From my perspective, it does certainly help nail down some of the suspect airport readings.  KPCM (Plant City) has been way higher than the surrounding personal weather stations:

61F for the NWS (just updated to 59F on the NWS site) and low to mid 50s for everything else?  Similar with KORL.  On AmbientWeather.net it is showing 65F (updated to 63F about 20 mins ago on NWS), but most of the personal stations are scraping 60-61F.  Something is off.

Those are some good points. I also saw KORL at 65f and raised an eyebrow…

I don’t know if their network is better than wunderground (lots of overlap), but their UI is better at least.

Interestingly, it appears to be the opposite situation at MacDill.

I definitely like the interface better.  As far as my neck of the woods goes, it seems a lot more accurate than some of the areas we mentioned above.  NWS is reported 68F KLAL and the stations around town seem to reflect that overall:
