Archontophoenix sp. 'royal' seed for sale

Recommended Posts

I got seeds off a king palm at the San Diego zoo several years ago that was sitting between two royal palms and doing it's best royal palm impression.  The trunk was as fat as a royal, you really couldn't tell it was a king unless you looked up at the crown.  The seedling grew to the same proportions, so this seems like a real variety.  Trunk is a bit about 26" in diameter, 6' circumference, and the leaf bases have 5' of clear crown.  It's really a nice king palm variety.  Probably a variation of A alexandrae, but not really sure. It is growing in the coldest part of my property, used to get pretty regular frost, mid to low 30s many times every winter (but warmer now).  Fresh seed, 30 for $15 + $5 shipping in US.

My son is interested in selling seeds from our garden so this is our first test.  We have several more palms seeding that will be available soon - Pritchardia hardyi, napaliensis, perlmanii, Sabal yapa all ripening now and some really cool stuff flowering.

Wow that thing has a pretty epic trunk on it!

If you wind up growing any seedlings I’d absolutely be interested!

I’ll also take some yapa when they are ready

Yes...please keep us updated on when the Sabal yapa fruits are ripe.  I would be interested in those as well.

@James B - I might germinate and grow a few.  Will let you know.

Sabal yapa seedsa are close I think, just waiting for color change.
