Hi,

I collected some Jubaea seeds recently and just right next to it there are several Butia and Syagrus. Can you tell from seeds if they are hybrids or not?

The seeds kind of have this not perfectly round shape other Jubaea seeds had which I am growing.

I'm pretty sure that you can't tell hybrids from the seed and you'll have to wait until the palm grows at least a few years.  From what I understand a hybridized mother palm will produce seeds consistent with the species, in your case Jubaea.

I concur with @Fusca; my big momma silver Jubutea produces quite a few seeds, some of which sprout.

I asked Jeff at Flouibunda palms this question because once in a while he has a hybrid palm he is not big on hybrids but when you have a lot of palms planted close things happen he said the seeds all look the same but when you have a flat full of seedlings and one is bigger than all the rest you have a hybrid but he never knows what the hybrid is just whatever the seed bearings palm is crossed with something!!
