An afternoon spent on the English Med

45 minutes by car to my south and I find myself on the English Med near Portsmouth. It’s no surprise anymore that the Phoenix Canariensis are outstanding here. This is a running theme now with CIDP’s in southern England, including London. I saw plenty of other exotics too. This isn’t Cornwall or London. This is Portsmouth in Hampshire.

I love exploring the coastal villages in southern England. In fact they are becoming more like Southern California than southern England.

I love exploring the coastal villages in southern England. In fact they are becoming more like Southern California than southern England.

Nice palm trees! Thanks for tagging me. Out of curiosity even if you can't receive them, in Spain this is the seller that has the most variety:

Inded!

Nice passiflora caerulea by he way, and Trithrinax too.

I didn’t post this one, but it looks like a massive orange / citrus tree that I saw in Southsea. I can’t be sure if it is though? I’m guessing the fruit had all been harvested over the summer maybe as I know they usually mature over winter and into spring. There are lots of flowers/buds present on it. I have seen orange trees of a similar size in London, full of oranges, so I am pretty sure it is an orange tree? @Silas_Sancona is usually pretty good at identifying these things? Unless it isn’t a citrus at all?

Looks a bit too upright / conical for a Citrus. Definitely not one if the leaves lack that distinctive Citrus-y smell.  Possibly an English Laurel,  But would need a close up of the individual leaves / leaf arrangement to be sure..

I support what Silas says. If you have a look at the last picture in your thread "8 hours in central London", that lemon tree has nothing to do with this "Laurel". Shape wise, at least.
