White fuzz on trunk of Sylvester palm

Recommended Posts

Hello,  I had a Sylvester palm installed this past spring in the south Jacksonville, Fl area. I just started to notice this white fuzz on the trunk. I’ve done some internet research and can’t seem to find any pictures or info that looks similar to my issue. Can anyone identify what may be the problem and how to remedy? Thanks from Florida.

It has been really rainy. Also where the tree is located it gets hit with reclaimed water through multiple sprinklers. What can I do to kill the fungus?

The best way is to re-aim the sprinklers so they don't hit the trunk.  If the fungus isn't getting watered daily then it'll just die off and disappear.  Spraying the trunk of a palm is a good way to kill it...not immediately...but eventually you'll get some fungal rot that isn't just a surface one like that white stuff.  You might need to swap spray heads on your sprinklers for something like a short distance fan instead of a rotor, etc.  But I'd recommend doing it soon!
