(Nearly) any mosquitos and zero bats to use to eat them. I think the freeze did them in. I use to get buzzed by bats anytime outside, but they are gone. They lived in my Washingtonia skirts. They packed up and left.

Straight up Furnace!!! Tough getting new plants established in weather like that. The east side is probably the only way you can keep some of those leafy veggies going I would think.

High 80’s-90’s all summer long is normal in TN, but high 90’s and 100’s with no rain for all of June was abnormal. At least we’ve gotten some rain here and have some more forecast to come. Honestly can’t imagine being a gardener in AZ, south TX for example, y’all got some high XP down there lol 2A28B169-F435-4E79-9E5C-299FAE66FB41.thumb.png.bd2041fdc06f7ff6735d3336ed190790.png

That was crazy last night, I had very similar conditions and the lack of breeze made things worse. Usually temperatures are low 80s or high 70s by 10PM, even when its 105+ during the day.

105F at 1pm already. I only dropped to 82F this morning. Urban heat island in full effect. Whew! My JxS Looks Bad.... My BxPT is fine. My Tallest Livisona Chineses is fried and I think I am going to loose a 7FT Mediterranean. It looks freeze dried. Like it just died overnight. I had been watering it, as it looked strange. I think the freeze damage from last year must have done a lot of internal damage.

I've noticed a lot of plants struggling this year and I too think that last years freeze, along with last summers constant rain were factors. If the plants had a proper growing season, they could possibly handle our current conditions.

It's a frigid 105 here. AccuWeather says we're gonna get a thunderstorm. I'm skeptical.

Its trying to cool down. They will hold their wings out, away from their bodies when it's really hot.

If you have any small containers, go ahead and puts some water out for the birds.

107 still climbing. Now hottest since Aug 2011. The summer from hell.

Saw a bird just like that at HEB in Bryan, looked like it needed help and was left to fend for itself. I thought it was on deaths door. Came back and saw it a week later, this was last week. It looked pretty roughed up.

I'm caught between wanting to be a kind human, and not wanting them all to hang out in my hotel parking lot. They poop all over everything.

I was on the Mopac-1 earlier just Northwest of downtown Austin and my temperature reading briefly was 109°F at 75mph. Not super accurate, but some sources are showing that as the registered high.

Please throw some of that cold down here!

It certainly is a good stress test albeit one I hope doesn't become too common... Most plants look exhausted, which is normal, and I have about one plant die on me a week. I am sure that rate will go up as this heat continues. Last week my rare Quercus Guyavifolia (golden oak) turned to a crisp!
:(
On the other hand, it is interesting to see what plants do fare well. I don't see many (unirrigated) plants able to flower in this weather but my morning glory tree did show off some light pink (see pic) and the Caesalpinia are actively growing and flowering.

Any other winners out there?!

My car says it's raining...... In Conroe. It's close enough that I can smell rain, but no rain here.

Solid zone 9, I can expect at least one night in the mid to low twenties every year.

Hot, dry summers. Cold, wet winters.

OH MY WHAT IS THIS WET STUFF FROM THE SKY??? first good soaking in over a month :yay:

Me and my neighbor saw a weather report that said rain was in the area. We were totally ready to drive just to remember what rain looks like. I guess Katy is "in the area" now.

Woulda been worth the drive for some El Rey tacos though.

That's 0.8" more with some hail than we've seen since last week of April up here. Wild that I'm really not THAT far away from you and things are this drastically different.
