I went with my family for a few days to Spain for holidays and with the help of @Alicante with his useful tips I took some nice photos with palms.

This is my favorite from all. This Ravenea almost looks like coconut to me.

@ego Look at the 90% coconut lookalike that Ravenea is! Remember the conversation we had some weeks ago? If the palm becomes big (tall) the trunk is not thick exceptuating the bottom. What a beauty!

I live in Altea, Spain 38°34'N 0º03'O. USDA zone 11a. Coastal microclimate sheltered by mountains.
The coconuts shown in my avatar are from the Canary Islands, Spain ! :)

I don't know exactly as I don't own any Ravenea. But I guesstimate it has a medium growth speed, based on how Bismarckias and Washingtonias grow here for example (very fast) this one grows nowhere as fast as these, but somewhere under the fast growing palms and faster than the slow ones. This is my conclusion after "studying" some publicly planted ones from 2007-2008 to nowadays. I also have an older pic of this same Ravenea (I'm not sure about the date) but the palm was considerably smaller compared to nowadays!

According to their official site, this pic was posted in 2017 but the difference seems too huge for just 5 years. https://www.bioparcvalencia.es/animales/especies-vegetales/

bioparc-palmera-majestad.jpg

This is the pic Stelios made now on April 2022, as you can see the palm is much, much bigger as in the pic from above. Did it really grow that much in just 5 years? :hmm:

20220423_132300.jpg

PS: And once again, this Ravenea (as well as many other species) is overtrimmed. Something very common that happens everywhere in Spain, including the Canary Islands.

I agree.  It's overtrimmed. With more full crown this ravenea will be ever more stunning. Sometimes these palms we consider as common can be as beautiful as the more rare ones.

Lovely photos. I was super impressed myself with the palms along the Costa de Sol area (Malaga). Not sure if that area technically expands east enough to include Elche. Anyways, If you can get enough water then many species are possible in this warm edge of Europe. I agree with others here- many are over-trimmed, but they don’t seem otherwise effected negatively in your photos.
