I really enjoy this picture because it includes two very amazing palms from South America. Ceroxylon quinduiense + Juania australis. BTW the Ceroxylon's are enormous.

Aitutaki atoll (Cook islands) - I went there in 2005. Probably one of the most beautiful atolls in the world. (Google it! ;) )

Either my wife or myself took this photo in 2017 while hiking the Hoapili Trail through the lava fields of Keoneʻōʻio Bay on the island of Maui.

The path has been improved over time, but the original trail was built hundreds of years ago by King Piʻilani and his son.

It's been awhile, so my IDs may be a touch rusty. Regardless..

#1 is Chrysalidocarpus ( ** Formally Dypsis ** ) leptocheilos, Teddybear Palm

#2 Corypha umbraculifera  Talipot Palm

#3 Prichardia ..pacifica,  ...if i remember correctly.

#4 Last is a Coccothrinax.. Not sure which sp though, < possibly C. argentea. >  The garden has several sp ( probably more now ) and proper signage on certain stuff was spotty at that time.

Pictures were shot at Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum, St. Pete, FL. Back in 2014.

If ever visiting the general area, well worth spending a couple hours exploring the collection.. Yes, good %'age of it is viewable on Street View now, but seeing everything in person is always best.

Strawberry Moon, and a sky full of stars. Two perspectives. Only thing missing? a Thunderstorm, and associated bolts ...somewhere in the background.

Somethin' extra..  Gotta love our sizzling skylines, even once the sun has set... Mountains in view are the San Tans.

Well... Just when i'd thought i was done adding the final of my " best of the last shots of the year "..  something happened.   ...Something so rare here that it's more of a chance to take a break from the usual, and admire something ..very unusual  than panic about..

In a nutshell, Power was out for about a half hour. First time we've lost power on NYE ever since moving here.  From the looks of it, someone must have hit a power " Box " which must connect this section of the neighborhood ...No poles here ( Thankfully ) up the road a few blocks..  No worries, rare that the power is out for longer than an hour ( Once, in 7 years here )..

While most people might hide out  inside when it is pretty much pitch black outside.. Not me.  Taking full advantage of the rarest of rare opportunity,  Grabbed the camera and ..well,  you'll see..  ( Hopefully they post correctly )

A rare day when you can actually see the stars here.. ..The way they are supposed to be viewed ( Though it would've been better if more areas nearby powered down for a little bit too, lol ).  All the while, plenty of fireworks around as the clock ticks closer to the start of '24..    A good omen for the coming year, perhaps????

🤔Thinking to myself,   Now, if only this can happen on a night in late July or August, for about 30 - 45min,  during an exceptional Summer light show..  Hint, hint..

Anyway..

@Silas_Sancona Beautiful moon & palm pictures!  Were those taken through a telescope or ???

:greenthumb:  Thanks Scott..   Camera i have atm ( A simple point and shoot ) has a 25X zoom.   Shots were mostly timing / steady hand(s) ..though i did have to adjust them a little due to some dust spots that " magically " appeared on the inner lens ( where they can't be removed, of course lol ) recently that now mess w/ some pictures when i try to zoom in on certain things at certain angles / lighting conditions.  Cropped these,  just a hair,  to take them out..
