Archontophoenix alexandrae in Jacksonville

Surprised to see zero damage to A. alexandrae just on the south side of Jacksonville. Would have thought the cold temps we got this past month would have fried them a little. Wish I had the guts to grow one or two of these.

That's surprising. There's a few off of South Beach Parkway at the beach that got pretty burnt.

Yup. I'll try to get a picture today if we take the bikes out. Facing the house, the one to the left is the worst. The 2 on the right of the driveway definitely seem to have gotten some protection from that oak tree.

Being a nursery they may have just brought these in post freeze?

I know @Mike B has these growing in Ponte Vedra.

@Brian M that looks more like I would expect. As Scott stated, they must have come in just after the cold snap although they appeared to be there for a while. This place is down on Phillips Hgwy.

Yeah I have two in three gallons that I brought in.  john Rossi has several types of Archontophoenix that had no damage down in Hastings that hit in the mid 20s but also have heavy oak protection.  I know when I plant the two I have that's where they will go, under the oak canopy.

Also this Florida royal suffered no damage, same location.

FWIW I have a Cunningham in the ground under oak canopy and has minimal burn after several mid 20s episodes this winter

last winter I protected it at low 20s so don’t know it’s ultimate hardiness

2 others I had croaked. Maybe some genetic variability in the species?
