Happ, I honestly don't know for sure. The water always feels warm to my feet, but I rarely go in. I prefer pools!

I thought it would be interesting to see how much it varies throughout the year, that's why I started posting.

Happ, The air temp never drops below 72 here on the coast. Inland a little (at about 100-150 feet elevation), it can get down to about 68 or 69 degrees at night, but never any lower than that.

Dec.22,2009-Palm Beach Inlet-76F. It's rising!

Generally the ocean temps will vary a few degrees or more each day [at least in my own experience] though currents can definitely alter temps up & down over several days.

Staying seasonal in SoCal w/ 59-60F readings.

Happ, Our ocean temperatures near shore are definitely effected by cold fronts. They quickly rise back after the cold front passes because the constant Gulfstream is only 2 miles offshore.

Clearwater Beach water temp has now dropped to a very hot tub like 57F as of this AM. This makes me wonder how much heat is left to give over the next few nights...........

Bubba, I have noticed that happening here also but it only seems to drop 4-5 degrees at most. Maybe because the Pacific ocean temps are already pretty cold anyway.

I consider my location to be on the equator. At about 3 degrees S I can drive to the equator in about 5 hours. The only thing that changes when you drive across the equator is that seasons flip. I am going up over the equator on Thursday more than likely. It is dry season there in Boa Vista now. As to water temperature there is no ocean here, but the river temperatures stay pretty constant. On the surface it stays around 80 F all year. When you dive down a bit it drops down a bit and is cooler.

Actually Gileno is a closer than Jeff to the Equator at 8 degrees south.
