Tyrone
It's been warmer than average near me all winter. It's just starting to get closer to average now at the end of winter, but the ocean further out has just warmed up a lot. It's going to make spring /summer/autumn especially interesting because in about a month it will all warm up again, but it will have a 1 or 2C head start, which in weather terms is a whole lot. It's approx 20C 68F at the moment. Best regards Tyrone Millbrook, "Kinjarling" Noongar word meaning "Place of Rain", Rainbow Coast, Western Australia 35S. Warm temperate. spockvr6
Not sure if the water temp drop around here is due to Gustav sucking the energy out of the Gulf or not, but when I checked the water temp 2 days ago, it was 91F. This morning it looks to have plummeted to 82F. Larry Palm Harbor, FL 10a / Ft Myers, FL 10b

Tyrone
After the ocean temp here being higher than average for all of last year, and especially through winter, in late Sept, early Oct it began to cool rapidly and was lower than average. In the past couple of weeks though, the entire eastern Indian Ocean has rapidly warmed to be warmer than average now by about 2C. The ocean temp off the coast here is 21-22C. I don't know what will happen if the rapid warming trend continues in summer and the cyclone season. It could be an interesting wet and humid summer I'd think.
