I 've  been in the blue areas before ( above )  when much of the world map was in showing  warmer than average temperatures   for certain years  .  My ultimate Low may not have been that bad but I was very cool during past periods , with late  springs and nasty wet winters  .

I'll take this for a change , and hope it pans out .

Right now, i wouldn't place too much faith in any of the mid / longer term forecasts.. Been a lot of flippin' and floppin' in various outlooks, esp. for next month and Feb.
This month's CPC long term update ..should.. be out by Thursday.

NMME suite is already viewable ( Just type in " CPC NMME outlooks ", then click through the " 1 Month US 2mTemp. and Precip. " links  there) Posted those " thoughts " somewhere else here.

Can't get the link to work correctly, but there was a post from Ryan Maue, via a twitter conversation w/ Forecaster Judah Cohen yesterday regarding the flip flopping outlooks for next month, and esp. Feb and why no one should trust any one particular outcome..  Essentially, While some are colder ( esp. here in the west, most are suggesting warmth here.. more cool/ cold in the east   ..Or staying mild -pretty much everywhere.  Liking what most of these maps are suggesting for Feb. We'll see what actually happens.  Need to access the same data myself, if possible.

My winters seem to swing between subtropical and subarctic within a season and over longer periods in the historical record. Last winter was weird, what else is new, the absolute minimum was 14 F. while it dropped to 0 F on the Gulf Coast but I had two feet of snow in my yard for two weeks in February., which is very unusual. This year, so far, the start of meteorological winter has been usually warm by multiple standard deviations as arctic air seems to be locked in the Arctic this year so far.  Also ending the year with an over abundance of summer precipitation (over 30 inches).  Supposed to be a La Nina year, but that pattern is not so clear cut for the Northeast.

Does anyone really know what to expect these days?!

Nope

Corpus Christi, TX, near salt water, zone 9b/10a! Except when it isn't and everything gets nuked.
