Archontophoenix question

Recommended Posts

Hey. I received this alexandra palm about 1.5 month ago, since then it has dried older leaves and grown perhaps 5 cm only. I checked the roots- the pot has not filled with rootball yet just some were visible.

The new emerging frond looks also a bit dry and curly. Is that normal?

I dragged it in just for

the picture-usually it is outside on or sunny terrace.

If you keep it in the sun do you make sure it has plenty of water? This palm loves water more than most palms and cannot stand drying out.

It is slightly damp but not wet. Since I lost last year in winter 2 archies to pink rot I have been careful with excess watering.

I have also a bottle palm and coconut for years but alexandra palm has been really difficult to keep alive. Maybe I will water deeply with palm fertiliser.

I took another photo from the newest leaf-the leaflets seem to be rolled.
