The Florida First Coast Palm Society invites you to see just what will grow in the “Far North”. You may be surprised to find so many palm and cycad species thriving in spite of the conditions.

Friday and Saturday October 5th and 6th.

Three gardens with very different climates less than 50 miles apart:

Garden of Dr. Kyle & Jeanette Brown – This garden includes approximately 150 species, varieties and forms of palms including numerous variegated and dwarf forms. Not all are in the ground, but all are available for viewing.

The Encinosa Jungle – is located in one of the warmer areas of the First Coast. An acre or so of palms, cycads, bromeliads, and gingers, as well as a few other plant families are represented here. The number of palm species on the property is approaching 90. Some, which are quite large, were planted more than 20 years ago.

The Palm Garden at Florida Community College of Jacksonville – was begun in 1987 and includes over 50 specimens of palms and cycads. Many have grown to stately proportions over the last 20 years.

Friday: Check in at the Ramada Inn, Mandarin. Reception 6-10 P.M. Food and Drinks (Cash Bar). Visit with friends old and new.

Saturday: Visit three palm gardens, big auction, banquet, keynote speaker.

Sunday: Suggestions for other garden visits if you have the time.

Chuck Hubbuch will be the keynote speaker on Saturday. The possibility of other speakers is still in the works.

About Chuck Hubbuch: Born and raised in Louisville, KY, he has a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from the University of Kentucky. Currently, the Physical Facilities, Assistant Director at the University of North Florida, he was the Curator of Horticulture at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens for three years. Prior to that he was the Director of Plant Collections at Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami for 18 years.
