Kentia Palm diseased or dying?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've bought a Kentia Palm a few months ago and noticed that some stems are turning yellow and that the leaves are becoming brown with black spots. I water moderately once a week/10 days (I stick my finger into the soil for about 2 inches) and feel if it's dry or wet. I've started fertilizing by adding 20 ml or fertilizer to one liter of water (I think maybe 200 ml ends up in the pot of the Kentia). The temperature in house is anywhere between 15 Celsius (at night) and 21 Celsius (during the day).

I've bought this plant due to the fact that it is a plant that grows in the shade and does not need much light. It stands 3 or 4 meters from a window (north-west) and our house is pretty dark due to only having windows on one side.

What do you think the problem is and how should I fix it?

Many thanks!

just guessing here, I think that it would like much more light, I don't know what those spots are, there are not scale under the leaf?

What ever it is I am assuming that is killing the plant.

Cheers Steve

It is not dead, it is just senescence.

Thanks for your reply. There's nothing under the leaves and unfortunately I can't move it much further to the windows..
