The Right Soil

Since becoming a member here, it is evident that there is a wealth of information on this forum.

One subject that I have been reading about is soil. Many members here are not using “soil” at all, but more of a substrate.

With all the success that others are having, the subject has made me curious about changing all my trees over to the “Pal” method.

In order to start, do you remove all the earth from the rootball? Does this method work for all palms?

Before any change of potting soil/mix, you should assess your local growing conditions, such as average temperature and humidity, sun exposure, hours of light, outside or inside location, among many others, to which your plants are subject. Obviously, each genus of palm and respective species have different needs regarding the type of soil, it is advisable to know the characteristics of their native soil and try to replicate and manipulate them, with the various components available, so that the final product is valid in your local environmental characteristics of cultivation. It's not as simple as just copying what others do, and that's it. It is necessary to study, experiment, share and search for information, and yes, you'll make some mistakes. But you will learn and enjoy a lot.

Totally depends on the plant, really. The only 2 I've got in the Pal method are my L. Weddellanium, and I copied his soil recipe because that's what his ceiling scrapers grow in.
