You tried!

I did, homey. This was my most expensive most rarest palm and it was a prolific flowering and trunking prick. Yeeted into the dumpster.

I know the feeling well!

If I had a dollar for all the ones I've murdered, I'd be uncomfortably well-off.

Try again!

Sorry I've been MIA for a hot minute. Been in a bad spot mentally, had no interest in anything at all. Things are a little better now, and I repotted Ol Dirty Sanchez in a huge 20" pot. The pot is flimsy as hell and def was not designed for a palm with an entire bag of soil, but what's done is done.

He's been looking like crap, only throwing 3 small fronds at a time after a huge 2021. Anyway, check out those nasty black squishy roots. Made lots of extra drain holes in the pot, stirred in fertilizer, etc etc. Lord he's heavy.

John, that soil looks really black and mucky. What are you using? It looks like it needs serious amendment with perlite, coco coir, turface etc. That the palm's roots are turning black and the pot is heavy tells me the palm is suffocating in soggy soil. I know you've been bummed but Dirty Sanchez's survival may be at stake under current conditions.

It's Miracle Gro cactus and palm.

There's some amendments underneath but I ran out of bark and clay so I topped it off with plain black dirt. It was in a large "bottom watering" pot before and the rotted roots were what I pulled out of the water reservoir. He had been in that pot for around 3 years or so and seen temps anywhere between 19 and 119. The old dirt was just grey and crusty.

@JohnAndSancho good to see you back!  Hope things continue to get better.

I dunno about better, but things suck a little less. It took 2 months for unemployment to kick in, then my bank flagged the check as fraud.

I had an interview for a resort on Lake Conroe on Friday and I bought myself a couple plants to cheer me up. A mangave from orange box store in The Woodlands and I found some sansaveria cylindrical at HGC for like $9.
